Meet BC Science Prescribed Learning Outcomes!

Junior Scientist (Kindergarten)

Students will learn how they are scientist by applying the processes of science to a series of experiments including Elephant's toothpaste.

Total Magnetism (Grade 1)

Exploring magnetism with a variety of activities including deconstruction of popular toys, extracting iron from cereal, and testing the magnetic properties of materials.

P.A.W.S Detectives (Grade 2)

Become a P.A.W.S (Properties of Air, Water, and Soil) detective, and help solve as a mystery case full of demos, challenges, and experiments.

Simply Structures (Grade 3)

After testing various materials for strength, students will use a budget in an engineering structure design challenge.  They will also have a chance to enter into pneumatic structure big enough for the entire class.

Light vs. Sound (Grade 4)

Discover the properties of light and sound and see how they compare through interactive demonstrations, experiments, and a final building project.

Renewable Resources (Grade 5)

In this design challenge, students will explore renewable and non-renewable forms of electricity and build a wind turbine that will be tested for the energy produced.

Extreme Oceans (Grade 6)

Come with us to explore the undersea world of the West Coast. Learn about the challenges of conducting research on the ocean floor, and ways that scientists and engineers of the UVic’s VENUS Project work to overcome these difficulties.
